DALLAS- Former Monmouth University and current Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Miles Austin has been named to the 2009 National Football League Pro Bowl, league
officials released on Tuesday.
The fourth year player has had a breakout season for the Cowboys, leading the
NFC in receiving yardage (1,230 yards on
a team-high 74 receptions) despite not being named a starter until week
five. He's only the sixth Cowboys receiver to score at least 10
touchdowns (11) in a season, and has 20 of the offense' 56 total 20-plus-yard
receiving gains this year.
Earlier this season, Austin set the Cowboy record for reception yardage in
a game, after racking up 250 yards and two touchdowns in an overtime win
against Kansas City. The game against
the Chiefs was his first career start. In
2006, Austin set the Cowboy record for longest kickoff return in a playoff
game, when he scored on a 93 yard return against Seattle in a NFC Wildcard game.
Austin, the first Hawk to be signed to an NFL team, was an undrafted free agent
acquisition in 2006. The Garfield, N.J.,
native left West Long Branch as the all-time leader in receptions, touchdown
receptions, reception yardage and scoring.
During his four years with the Hawks, Austin helped lead the Hawks to
back-to-back Northeast Conference championships in
Austin and the Cowboys, who have clinched a spot in the 2009 NFL Playoffs, will
host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday
with the NFC East title on the line.
