WOMEN'S SOCCER ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH 6-0 VICTORY AT FDU

TEANECK, N.J. - Monmouth junior Mary Wilks (two goals, one assist) and sophomore Courtney Snyder (three assists) combined for eight points, as the Hawks posted a 6-0 victory at Fairleigh Dickinson to finish the 2009 regular season, on Sunday afternoon. Monmouth, which earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament, finished its regular season slate with a 13-4-1 overall mark and an 8-1-1 record in league play.

Monmouth, the No. 2 overall seed, will face third-seeded Quinnipiac (8-6-2, 7-2-1) in the second semifinal on Friday, November 6th in New Britain, Connecticut. Top-seeded and host CCSU (11-6-2, 9-0-1) will face No. 4 seed Long Island (9-7-1, 5-4-1) at 11 a.m.

"This was a terrific way to end the regular season," commented head coach Krissy Turner, who has guided the Hawks to 10 overall NEC Tournaments, and four straight postseason appearances. "We received contributions from the entire team, which is a fitting way to enter the NEC's."

In the victory, in which the Hawks scored the most goals by the team since its seven-goal output at NJIT last season, Monmouth posted its 12th overall shutout of the year, giving junior goalkeeper Lia Fierro 27 for her career.

Wilks, who has now scored six goals in the last three matches, got the Hawks on the board in the third minute off a feed from Snyder. The junior, who now has 44 career points, has recorded career-bests in goals (11) and assists (5) already this season.

Senior Andrea Lopez added her sixth goal of the season at 14:18, giving the Hawks a 2-0 edge, as both Wilks and Snyder were credited with assists on the forward's 30th career goal.

At 23:13, Monmouth went ahead 3-0 as junior Ali Kliment's free kick to the left side found an open Wilks, who shot and scored from 12 yards out.

Monmouth inflated the lead to 4-0 at 29:51 when sophomore Jennie Vartebedian notched her first goal of the year off a feed from Snyder.

Senior Shannon Rogers and freshman Amber Agostinelli added second half scores for the Blue and White, to account for the 6-0 final. Rogers notched her first score of the year at 86:32, as freshman Nicole Close added a helper, and Agostinelli tallied an unassisted score in the 90th minute from 10 yards away.

Monmouth outshot the Knights 17-9 in the match, including 10-1 in the opening stanza. Fierro, who allowed three goals in 10 NEC matches on the season, made five saves in goal for the Hawks. FDU netminder Megan MacKellar made five saves for the Knights, who fell to 2-15-1 overall and 0-9-1 in the NEC.

Monmouth, making its 13th overall Northeast Conference Tournament appearance, returns to action on Friday in the second semifinal of the NECs, slated for 1:30 p.m. Monmouth, which defeated Quinnipiac, 4-1, on October 25, has not faced the Bobcats in the postseason since back-to-back contests in 1999 and 2000, both won by QU.
