PRINCETON- For the
first time in program history, Monmouth's women's tennis squad defeated
in-state rivals Princeton, beating the Tigers 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
Monmouth took four of the six singles matches with Diane Washer (Ogdensville,
N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) clinching the victory for the Hawks for the
third time this season with her win in the fifth slot. Washer downed Sydney Booker 7-5, 6-3 for her
third dual match singles victory of the year.
Freshman sensation Dana Ferrari (Saddlebrook, N.J./Immaculate Heart
Academy) extended her winning streak to seven straight overall matches with a
6-0, 6-1 win over Katherine McCracken.
Hawks Nicole Lippens (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) and Britney Dupuis
(Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) also earned singles victories, at the No. 2 and No.
6 spots, respectively.
Lippens and Katie Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) won the
first doubles flight by a 8-6 margin, while Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) and Washer
teamed to defeat the Tiger tandem of Genay Kirkpatrick and Booker by a score of
8-5. The match marked the first time
that Lippens won both her singles and doubles match.
Princeton earned its two team points by winning the first and third singles
flights.
