Kaitlin Gallagher (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) posted two wins on the day to lead the Monmouth women's tennis in a close match, as they lost to Manhattan Wednesday afternoon 4-0 in Flushing, N.Y.
Gallagher opened up scoring for the Hawks with a second singles win over the Jasper's Morgan MacTaggart 6-2, 6-2. She later posted the Hawks' only doubles victory, teaming up with fellow senior
Sarah Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Hunterdon Central) to win 8-4.
The Hawks picked up team points in third singles and sixth singles, giving the Hawks a chance to win the match going into third doubles for the deciding match point. Red-hot
Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) and
Kelly Friedrich (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) fought hard but fell to Manhattan's Lindsey Keeler and Christina Ton team 8-3 to give Manhattan the team victory.
Slinger posted an early victory at sixth singles beating Ton 6-0, 6-2 while sophomore
Katie Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) won her second singles match of the season 6-4, 6-1.
Coach Murray's crew drop to 0-4 on the season, with two close one point losses to Manhattan and Rider. The Hawks posted a season-high three singles victories. The Blue and White are currently 7-17 in singles games and 4-8 in doubles games this season.
The Hawks return to the courts, looking for their first team and conference victory, on Saturday, September 27th as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on NEC rival Robert Morris at 1:00 p.m.
