OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. ? The Monmouth University women's tennis team fell 7-0 to NEC rival Sacred Heart at the Firemen's Field tennis courts Tuesday afternoon.
The Hawks opened afternoon play with the first singles team of Sarah Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) and Kaitlin Gallagher (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) losing to the Pioneers top singles team of Kasinow and Betz 8-0. Monmouth dropped all three doubles matches, losing the doubles point of the match.
The Blue and White moved on to singles action where both Ragan and Gallagher dropped the first and second singles with scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Katie Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) stepped in for injured captain, Kristen Hoffmann, to drop the third set of the afternoon to the Pioneer's Donnelly 6-1, 6-0.Sophomore Kelly Friedrich (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) lost in the afternoon's closest match 6-4, 6-3 to Betz.
The Pioneers cooled off the hot racquets of freshman Britney Dupuis (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) and Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) as the pair dropped both fifth and sixth game singles to end the conference match.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-3 on the fall season, and 0-1 in conference play.
Monmouth returns to action today as they travel to Manhattan to take on Jaspers at 4:30 p.m.
