HAWKS BATTLE TO 1-1 DOUBLE OVERTIME DRAW AT SETON HALL

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Monmouth University women's soccer team earned a 1-1 double overtime draw at Seton Hall on Tuesday night, in non-conference action. The Hawks played in their third straight overtime match over a five-day span, to improve to 6-1-1 overall, and remain unbeaten in their last five games.

Monmouth senior Illiana Blackshear put the Hawks ahead, 1-0, in the 50th minute, as the forward benefitted on an assist from junior Andrea Lopez. Blackshear, who netted the winning goal against La Salle on Sunday afternoon in overtime, scored her second goal of the year.

Seton Hall knotted the match two mintues later when Nikki Gross knocked in a header at 51:38.

"We fought hard for this result," said head coach Krissy Turner, who has lead Monmouth to a 1-0-2 record versus Seton Hall of the Big East over the last three years. "To compete in three overtime games in five days was a challenge, and to be undefeated is a positive step to prepare for NEC play."

Hawks' sophomore goalkeeper Lia Fierro made four saves for the Hawks to improve to 6-1-1 on the year, while her counterpart Chelsea King made three saves for Seton Hall.

Monmouth wraps up non-conference play with a match against Saint Peter's on September 28. The non-league match is set for noon, on The Great Lawn, where the Hawks are 3-0 so far this season.
