JERSEY CITY, N.J. ? Monmouth women's tennis started off rocky but finished strong, as they dropped to St. Peter's 5-2 in Jersey City, N.J on Friday afternoon action. Despite dropping the first four singles games, the Hawks bounced back to win the last two singles, and last doubles, games of the match.

The Hawks opened the afternoon with a 7-5, 6-3 fifth singles win as freshman Britney Dupuis (Freehold, NJ./Colts Neck) defeated the Peahen's Kristen Realista to put Monmouth on the board. Taking cue from her fellow classmate, Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) continued her successful career start by winning the sixth singles match 6-1, 6-0.

Slinger then dropped her first career third singles match in a close match, 7-5, 6-1 before she finished the day with another win as she partnered with Kristen Hoffmann (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) to capture third doubles over St. Peter's Realista and Ganevska 8-2. With two wins on the day, Slinger moves to 4-1 on the season, while remaining undefeated at the sixth singles and third doubles positions.

On the young season, freshmen Dupuis and Slinger combine for a 7-1 record to lead the Hawks in individual victories.

With the loss, the Hawks drop to 0-2 all-time against the Peahens with the previous loss being last September at St. Peter's. The Blue and White drop to 0-2 on the season as the Peahens improve to 2-0.

Monmouth opens their home season on Tuesday, September 23rd when they host the season's first conference action with Sacred Heart at 3:00 p.m. at Firemen's Field in Ocean Township, N.J.
