BETHLEHEM, PA. ? Monmouth senior Joanna DeMoor headed in the game-winner, six minutes into overtime Friday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex, to give the Hawks a 1-0 victory at Lehigh. With the win, the Hawks improve to 5-1 on the season, while Lehigh falls to 2-4-1 on the year.
“It was a terrific performance on the road versus a solid Lehigh squad,” said head coach Krissy Turner. “It was fitting that Joni scored the goal, as she was the player of the match for us.”
After a throw in the offensive end, BrieAnne Nomejko sent a ball into the box from 25 yards out. DeMoor headed the ball down and past Lehigh goalkeeper Lauren Mains for her fourth goal of year, and third game-winner. Nomejko, credited with an assist, recorded her first point of the year with the helper.
Mains made five saves for the Mountain Hawks, while sophomore Lia Fierro recorded her third shutout on the season stopping three shots.
The Blue and White controlled the shots 15-8 and the corners 6-4 in the victory.
In a tightly contested series between the two institutions, each of the last six matches have been decided by one goal, or have been a draw.
The Hawks return to action on Sunday, September 21st as they battle La Salle on The Great Lawn. Opening kick is slated for 1 p.m.
