OFFENSE ROLLS IN WOMEN'S SOCCER'S 7-0 VICTORY AT NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. - The Monmouth University women's soccer team cruised to a 7-0 victory over NJIT in non-conference action, on Friday afternoon, at Lubetkin Field. The Hawks, now 3-1 on the season, were paced by sophomore Mary Wilks, who registered her first career hat trick, and senior Joni DeMoor, who added two goals and two assists in the road win.

"It was an outstanding attacking effort today in a driving rain storm," stated head coach Krissy Turner, who now has 102 career wins at Monmouth. "Today was a solid performance from our entire roster."

DeMoor got the Hawks on the board in the 18th minute, when the forward opportunely knocked in a rebound off of Andrea Lopez's service to give the Blue and White a 1-0 advantage. Lopez then put the Hawks ahead 2-0, with her first score of the year, four minutes later, as Illiana Blackshear and DeMoor were credited with helpers on the play.

Wilks tallied the next two scores for Monmouth, giving the Hawks a 4-0 lead at the intermission. Wilks, who entered the match tied for the team-lead in scoring, netted her first goal off a volley from 20 yards out. The sophomore's second score came off an assist from DeMoor in the 39th minute.

Nearly 14 minutes into the second half, DeMoor put Monmouth ahead 5-0 off a feed from junior defender Shannon Rogers, her first point of the year. Alessandra DeTata then made the match 6-0 with a tally from Lopez, and Wilks rounded out the scoring off a feed from freshman April Damurjian, playing in her first career game.

Wilks, who tallied four points in her rookie season last year, now leads the team with nine points, on four goals and an assist, while DeMoor's six-point outing gives her eight on the year.

Monmouth held a dominating 19-1 edge in shots in the contest. The goalkeeping duo of Lia Fierro and Katie Buffa registered the Hawks' third shutout of the season, as each played a half between the pipes for Monmouth.

The seven scores was the highest goal total for the Hawks in a single game since Monmouth posted a 9-0 victory over Saint Peter's on September 2, 2005.

Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, September 14, when the Hawks host Iona on The Great Lawn, at noon.
