WEST WINDSOR, N.J. ? The Monmouth University women's tennis team, seeded sixth, defeated seventh-seeded Wagner, 4-0 in the consolation round of the 2008 Northeast Conference Tournament at the Mercer County Tennis Center on Saturday.
Kaitlin Gallagher led the way for Monmouth at second singles, defeating Marie Crane 6-0, 6-3. Kristen Hoffman also was victorious at third singles, topping Sarah Sproviero 6-1, 6-0, while teammate Diane Washer was a straight-set winner at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-0 over Valerie LeCureux.
Katie Tierney and Washer won 8-0 at second doubles over Sproviero and LeCureux and Chrissy Cella and Hoffman won 8-5 over Emily Boyd and Joanna Ciavarella at third doubles.
The Hawks ended up in the consolation bracket after falling to #3 Fairleigh Dickinson 5-0 in the quarterfinal round on Friday.
