OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. ? The Monmouth University women's tennis team shutout St. Francis (N.Y.) 7-0 in Northeast Conference action on Monday afternoon the Firemen's Field tennis courts.
Sarah Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) led the charge for the Hawks with a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles over Tara Garone. Kaitlin Gallagher (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) was also a 6-0, 6-0 winner at second singles, defeating Jenna Charles. Diane Washer (Odgensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles over Kerri-Ann Sarjeant and Chrissy Cella (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood).
Katie Tierney (Berkeley Heights , N.J./Governor Livingston) and Kelly Friedrich (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) won their matches at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, by forfeit.
The Hawks won the doubles point as Ragan and Gallagher topped Charles and Garone 8-0 at first doubles and Emily Smith (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) Tara Warner (Pt. Pleasant Beach, N.J.Pt. Pleasant Beach) won 8-0 at second doubles. Washer and Tierney won at third doubles in a forfeit.
