OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. ? The Monmouth University women's tennis team fell 7-0 to Long Island on Wednesday at the Firemen's Field tennis courts.
For Monmouth, Sarah Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) fell at first singles 6-2, 6-1 to Selma Babic, and teammate Kaitlin Gallagher (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision at second singles to Ashley Harvey. Kristen Hoffman (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by H'Ann Johnson at third singles and Katie Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) fell 6-1, 6-4 to Stephania Elie at fourth singles.
Diane Washer (Odgensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match to Amy Hosotsuji at fifth singles and Kelly Friedrich (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) lost a 7-5, 6-2 match to Dara Lahens at sixth singles.
The doubles duo of Ragan and Gallagher fell 8-2 at first doubles to Johnson and Babic, while the team of Washer and Tierney dropped an 8-1 match to Hosotsuji and Harvey at second doubles. Chrissy Cella (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) and Hoffman lost 8-0 at third doubles to Lahens and Elie.
Monmouth returns to action on Saturday, April 12 when they travel to Philadelphia for a 12:00 pm match with La Salle.
