WOMEN'S TENNIS SNAPS WIN STREAK WITH 6-1 FAULT AT FDU

TEANECK, N.J. ? Sophomore Kelly Friedrich (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) posted a win at sixth singles to provide the Monmouth women's tennis team with their only spark as they lost, 6-1 to NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson at the FDU Courts in Teaneck, N.J. Friedrich dropped the first set 6-0 before providing a dramatic comeback with a 6-2, 6-3 finish over the Knight's Christina Martine.

Coach Patrice Murray's crew fought hard but could not prevail in any other singles matches dropping first, third, fourth, and fifth singles in straight sets. Senior Kaitlin Gallagher (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) took her second singles game to three sets, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1.

In doubles action, the Blue and White lost all three games with the closest game at second doubles, Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) and Diane Washer (Ogdensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional), falling 8-5 to the Knight's Ferhatbegovic and DeCarlos.

Friedrich is currently riding a four-game win streak at fifth and sixth singles for the Hawks, having won all four games she's seen in conference action. Freshmen Slinger and Britney Dupuis (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) still lead Monmouth in overall singles records posting 5-2 and 5-3 records respectively.

The Hawks broke a three game conference winning streak with the loss, having downed Robert Morris, St. Francis (Pa.), and Wagner weeks earlier. Monmouth drops to 3-5 on the fall season, and 3-2 in NEC conference play, as they take a break from conference play to return to non-conference action tonight.

Monmouth women's tennis dropped a non-conference effort at Princeton when the Tigers beat the Hawks, 6-1 this past Sunday afternoon in Princeton, N.J. Friedrich was the only Hawk to win as she took sixth singles with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.

Women's tennis returns home to host New Jersey Institute of Technology at home court Firemen's Field in Ocean, N.J. today, October 7th, with the first ball being served at 3:30 p.m.
