LAST SECOND GOAL LIFTS WOMEN'S SOCCER TO 1-0 DOUBLE OT WIN AT WAGNER

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Monmouth University junior Andrea Lopez broke a scoreless tie with just five seconds remaining in double overtime to lift the Hawks to a 1-0 Northeast Conference victory at Wagner, on Friday afternoon. The win improves Monmouth to 14-2-1 overall and 7-1 in the league, and sets up a showdown with Long Island University on Sunday for the NEC Regular Season Championship, and top-seed in the upcoming postseason.

Lopez, who notched her fourth game-winning goal on the season, tallied her fifth score of the year, at 109:55 in the match.

"We did not play to our potential today, but I think it was difficult with Sunday's game on the horizon," said head coach Krissy Turner. "We are excited to go to Brooklyn and compete for the regular season title."

Monmouth, which won the 2007 NEC regular season and tournament championships, earned its 14th win on the season, the third-highest victory total in program history. The Blue and White posted 14 wins two seasons ago, while the Hawks delivered three straight 17-win campaigns from 1994-1996, and two 15-win seasons in 1987 and 1988.

The Hawks outshot Wagner 26-14 in the match, while sophomore goalkeeper Lia Fierro made nine saves to earn her seventh shutout of the year. Wagner netminder Sam Schueschner made 11 saves for the Seahawks.

Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, when the Hawks travel to Brooklyn to take on league-leading Long Island (14-3-1, 8-0 NEC). Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
