OCEAN, N.J. ? Monmouth women's tennis won their first home match of the season, breezing past Wagner, 7-0, on a cloudy Wednesday afternoon at Firemen's Field in Ocean, N.J. Coach Murray's crew produced a flawless victory ? dropping no sets - in beating their fellow NEC member to improve their conference record to 3-1 on the season to date.
The Hawks opened up scoring when senior Sarah Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) won her first match at first singles, 7-6 (3), 6-2 over the Seahawks' Brittany Frazza. Ragan's match proved to be the toughest of the afternoon as the Hawks flew through the next five singles matches, winning all with a combined score 60-1.
Senior Kaitlin Gallagher (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) took second singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 improving her overall singles record to 3-4 on the season. Katie Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) follow Gallagher's performance with a third singles win of her own, 6-0, 6-1 over Britte Olsen.
Sophomore Kelly Friedrich (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) defeated the Seahawks' Sabrina Dileo at fifth singles 6-0, 6-0 to keep the victory ball rolling for the Hawks.
Freshmen Britney Dupuis (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) and Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) took fourth and sixth singles to continue their hot streak to start their careers. Slinger leads the team with a 5-1 singles record while Dupuis owns a 5-2 record for the Blue and White.
Monmouth took all three doubles ? 8-1, 8-1, 8-0 ? to win the doubles point and complete the undefeated day for the Hawks.
The Hawks are riding a three-game win streak having only dropped two games total in the last three matches.
Monmouth will look to continue their winning ways when they return to the courts against Princeton this Sunday, October 5th at 11:00 a.m at Princeton, N.J.
