WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth junior defensive lineman Kevin Walsh (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) has been named to the Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team, officials announced recently.
Walsh was one of 51 selected members, from a pool of over 96 players, after earning a 3.34 grade point average while terrorizing opposing offenses from his defensive tackle position. The Mt. Laurel, N.J., native was fifth on the Hawks in tackles with 39, including 13 solo stops. He led MU in tackles for a loss with 11, tossing opposing players back for 51 yards. The junior was a disruptive force all season, ending with three sacks, two pass breakups, two blocked kicks an interception and two forced fumbles. Walsh was also a member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team.
Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution.
