WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES VS. CCSU, JAN. 21, 7:00 P.M.

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University women's basketball team will shoot for three Northeast Conference wins in a row when they host Central Connecticut State on Monday night at Boylan Gym.

The Hawks are coming off a thrilling 82-75 double overtime win this past Saturday over St. Francis (N.Y.) in which Brianne Edwards (Bloomfield, Conn./Suffield) scored a career-high 23 points in a season-high 37 minutes. She paced five Hawks in double figures as MU came back from down nine points in the second half in a game that had 11 lead changes. LaKia Barber (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park) posted her first double-double of the year as she scored 10 points and tied a career-high with 10 rebounds.

The last time five Hawks scored in double figures also coincided with their last double overtime league win when they defeated Mount St. Mary's 95-91 on January 6, 2007. With the win, Monmouth vaulted back into contention in the conference, as they now sit in an eighth-place tie with St. Francis (Pa.).

CCSU is led by first-year head coach Beryl Piper, who took over this season after 19 years at New Britain High School. The Blue Devils are led by Kerrianne Dugan, who averages 9.7 points per game.

Monmouth leads the all-time series between the two schools 11-8, including last season's split where each team won on the other's home court.
