STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. ? The Monmouth University women's tennis team got their first win of the season, 7-0 over Wagner on Wednesday afternoon. Monmouth dropped only one set in the Northeast Conference dual match with the Seahawks.
Kaitlin Gallagher (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) defeated Brittany Frazza 6-3, 6-1 at first singles to lead Wagner. Sarah Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) was victorious at second singles in straight sets, as was teammate Katie Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) at third singles.
Kristen Hoffman (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) topped Marie Crane 6-4, 6-0 at fourth singles, while Diane Washer (Ogdensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at fifth singles. Chrissy Cella (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) won in three sets 6-3, 2-6 and 10-7 at sixth singles.
The team of Gallagher/Ragan won 8-6 at first doubles, while the duo of Tierney/Washer won 8-3 at second doubles and Hoffman/Friedrich won 8-4 at third doubles.
Earlier in the week, Monmouth fell 6-1 to NJIT in Newark, N.J. Monmouth's lone point was won by Cella by sixth singles with her 7-6, 10-12, 10-2 marathon win over Grace Bogdan.
