HOYER'S LATE GOAL LIFTS WOMEN'S SOCCER TO 1-0 WIN OVER RIDER

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University senior Amy Hoyer (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington) registered the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute, to lift the women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Rider on Friday afternoon. Hoyer intercepted a Rider defensive clear and deposited a shot into the back of the net for the winning score.

Monmouth, which out shot Rider 14-2 in the match, snapped a two-game draw streak with the home win. Hoyer, who tied the match at Rider last season with an unassisted goal at 83:04, scored her first goal of the season. Monmouth improves to 2-2-2 on the season, while the Broncs fall to 2-2-3.

"It was a solid team performance today," said head coach Krissy Turner, who has guided the Hawks to a 10-0-2 record in their last 12 matches on The Great Lawn. "Our backline and goalkeeping continue to be a strength for us. Amy showed a lot of composure to finish on that goal. We have three games left in our non-conference schedule and we will be looking to fine-tune our offense."

Monmouth sophomore Andrea Lopez (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) crossed the ball into the box, which created the scoring opportunity for the Hawks, who put 12 shots on goal. Rider freshman netminder Alex Post made 11 saves for the Broncs, including a breakaway stop of an Illiana Blackshear (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) attempt with just over three minutes left until intermission.

Monmouth goalkeeper Lia Fierro (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) made two saves to earn her second shutout of the year.

Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, when the Hawks travel to Philadelphia for a non-conference match at Temple, at 1 p.m.
