WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 exhibition match to Hofstra on Saturday morning. Hofstra netted two goals in the final five minutes of the match, to ensure the win.
"We played a very talented team today," said head coach Robert McCourt. "We continue to learn more about our group, both the positives, and what we need to correct."
Hofstra tallied its first goal in the 86th minute, an own goal off a Monmouth defender's head. The Pride upped the edge to 2-0 with a minute remaining, off a cross.
Monmouth had its scoring chances in the game, as Tom Gray hit the cross bar on a free kick, five minutes into the match, while Damon Wilson hit the post on a breakaway in the 30th minute.
The Blue and White open the regular season at the Carolina Nike Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C., as the Hawks face No. 16 North Carolina on August 31 and No. 3 Wake Forest on September 2.
