PROVIDENCE, R.I. ? The Monmouth University women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches in Rhode Island this weekend, falling to Providence 5-2 on Saturday and to URI 7-0 on Sunday.
On Saturday, Monmouth's two wins came at second and fourth singles, respectively, with Sarah Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey) winning 6-1, 6-2 over Jen Cusack and Kristen Hoffman (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) prevailing in three sets 5-7, 6-3 and 10-2 over Dara Hawkins-Hodgson.
Kaitlin Gallagher (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) fell at first singles 6-2, 6-3 to Kate Lyons and Katherine Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) fell to Avery Gibson 6-3, 6-3 at third singles.
Diane Washer (Odgensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) fell 6-4, 6-2 at fifth singles and Chrissy Cella (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at sixth singles.
In doubles, the MU duo of Ragan/Gallagher dropped an 8-4 decision to Hodgson-Hawkins/Gibson at first doubles. Washer and Tierney fell to Amy McDevitt and Ayashi Shina 8-2 and Hoffman/Friedrich fell 8-1 to Lyons/Cusack.
MU also dropped a nonconference match to the Rams on Sunday.
The Hawks return to action on Thursday, October 11 when they travel to Fairleigh Dickinson for a 3:00 p.m. match with the Knights.
