LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. ? The Monmouth University women's tennis team defeated Rider, 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Hawks' record to 2-4 on the season.
Sarah Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) led the way for the Hawks at second singles with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win over Danielle Morse. Freshman Katie Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) topped Danielle Cheong at third singles, while Kristen Hoffman (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Amanda Matticks at fourth singles. Diane Washer (Odgensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) defeated Alyssa Markovits 7-5, 6-3 at fifth singles for Monmouth and Chrissy Cella (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) won by forfeit at sixth singles.
In doubles, the MU duo of Gallagher/Ragan was victorious in the first flight 9-7 over Rider's Krissy Paich and Morse, while the team of Tierney and Washer topped Cheong and Matticks 8-4 in the second flight. Monmouth's Hoffman and Kelly Friedrich (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) won by forfeit at third doubles.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, October 6 when they travel to Providence for an 11:00 a.m. match with Friars.
