KLANG'S FREE KICK GOAL LIFTS MEN'S SOCCER TO 1-0 WIN AT SACRED HEART

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - Monmouth University junior Andreas Klang delivered a 25-yard free kick service for a score to lift the Hawks to a 1-0 win at Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The win, Monmouth's sixth straight victory, improves the Hawks to 10-2-2 on the season and 5-0 in the NEC.

Following a Sacred Heart foul, Klang set the ball for a direct kick from 25 yards out at 34:59. Klang lifted the ball over a wall of Pioneer defenders and beat SHU goalkeeper Matt Jones into the upper right corner, for his second goal in three games.

"The guys showed a lot of character this weekend to get two road victories, against two very good teams," said head coach Robert McCourt. "We've been dealing with some injury adversity, so to get these points is important for us."

Sacred Heart held a 14-12 edge in shots in the match, which forced Monmouth netminder Daniel Schenkel to make four saves. Schenkel posted his sixth shutout on the season. Jones made five saves for the Pioneers, who were whistled for 25 fouls, to Monmouth's seven infractions.

Monmouth returns to action on Friday, October 26, when the Hawks host Central Connecticut State at 3 p.m., on The Great Lawn.
