HOYER NETS TWO GOALS AS HAWKS TOP FDU 3-1 ON THE ROAD

TEANECK, N.J. -

Monmouth University senior Amy Hoyer (Chesterfield, N.J./North Burlington) scored twice, sophomore Andrea Lopez (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) added two assists and junior Joanna DeMoor (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) added a goal and an assist to pace the Hawks to a 3-1 win at Fairleigh Dickinson in women's soccer action, on Friday afternoon. Monmouth, winners of five straight matches, improved to 7-2-3 overall and 3-0 in the Northeast Conference, while FDU falls to 3-9 and 1-2 NEC.

"This was a solid performance on the road against a fiesty opponent," said Monmouth head coach Krissy Turner. "It was great to see Amy [Hoyer] get on the board with two goals. In order to reach our goals, we need to earn points on the road."

Monmouth opened the scoring at 27:46, when a give-and-go between Lopez, sophomore BrieAnne Nomejko (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and DeMoor resulted in DeMoor's third goal of the season, and a 1-0 lead.

The Knights knotted the match 1:04 later when Michelle DeCourcey and Alex White were credited with assists on Tonya Hipsman's fifth tally of the year. Hipsman, who received a through ball in the box, beat freshman Lia Fierro (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) to tie the game at 1-1.

Hoyer put the Hawks back in front in the 42nd minute, when the senior received a pass from Lopez and fired a shot from 35 yards out into the uppper right corner of the net. Hoyer tallied her second goal of the game just 4:16 into the second half, as junior Illiana Blackshear (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) passed a ball from the right side of the box, which was slid on to Hoyer by DeMoor. Hoyer deposited the ball into the lower right corner, for her fourth goal of the season.

Monmouth led in overall shots 18-7, forcing FDU's Rachel Derrico to make 10 saves. Fierro made three stops in net for the Hawks.

Monmouth is now 3-0 in the NEC for the first time since the opening of the 2000 campaign.

The Blue and White return to action on Sunday, October 14, when the Hawks travel to Sacred Heart for a 1 p.m., NEC contest.
