REIMET'S GOAL SENDS HAWKS INTO CAA CHAMPIONSHIP

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Summer Reimet scored with 2:45 to play in the second overtime period to lift the No. 3 Monmouth University women's soccer team to a 2-1 comeback win over No. 2 Hofstra University in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) semifinals.
 
The Hawks advance to the CAA Championship game for the first time in just their second year in the league. 
 
Hofstra jumped on top early in this one as Millie Davies rifled a shot off the crossbar at 21:24 and the rebound came right to Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir. She punched the ball home for a 1-0 Hofstra advantage. 
 
The two teams had their chances over the remainder of the period but neither side was able to capitalize as Hofstra carried the 1-0 lead into the break. 
 
The Hawks and Pride battled to start the second half. Cassie Coster had a big save for the Hawks at 54:35. 
 
Monmouth broke through in the 76th minute. Off a throw in, Liza Suydam went around a defender and rifled a shot into the upper far corner of the net and tied the game at 1-1. 
 
Hofstra got off one more shot before the clock ran out on regulation. 
 
Both sides got off two shots in the first overtime period but neither the Hawks nor the Pride was able to convert. Monmouth put one off the crossbar and the other was saved by the Hofstra keeper. 
 
Monmouth's game-winner came at 107:15 as Chloe Ferreira found a charging Reimet and she was able to get around the keeper and score. 
 
Hofstra got off one more shot, but it was off target and the Hawks claimed the 2-1 win.

- Monmouth advanced to the CAA Championship for the first time ever. It will be the Hawks' eighth appearance in a conference championship game since 2013.  
- Monmouth secured its first ever win over Hofstra in eight tries. The Pride had led the all-time series 4-0-3 against the Hawks.  
- CAA Rookie of the Year Liza Suydam scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season for the Hawks. It is the most goals in a season by a Hawk since Lauren Karabin had 10 in 2021.
- Summer Reimet's goal was her third of the season and second game-winner this year for the Hawks.
- Chloe Ferreira picked up her third assist of the season. She is one of five Hawks with three assists this season.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Both teams registered 12 shots in the contest. Monmouth had four shots on goal to Hofstra's three. 
- Hofstra took the game's only corner kick in the first overtime period. 
- Cassie Coster finished with two saves for Monmouth while Skylar Kuzmich made two saves for the Pride. 
- Chloe Ferreira and Liza Suydam each took three shots in the game.  

UP NEXT
-Monmouth will play for the CAA Championship at No. 1 Towson on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. The Hawks and Tigers battled to a 0-0 tie in the regular season.
