Damon Godfrey was promoted to Monmouth Cross Country Head Coach in 2025, while maintaining his role as Track & Field Associate Head Coach.

Since joining Monmouth University in November 2019, Godfrey has played a transformative role in the success of the track & field and cross-country programs. Brought on as an assistant coach specializing in middle and long-distance events, Godfrey quickly made his presence felt. In just his first season, he helped lead the men’s indoor track team to a MAAC Championship in 2020, with standout performances in distance events.

Godfrey's impact extended beyond the track. In the cross-country realm, he guided both the men's and women’s teams to some of their best performances in program history. At the 2021 MAAC Cross Country Championships, the men placed second, achieving their lowest team score ever, while the women finished fourth. His coaching helped several runners earn All-Conference recognition. By the fall of 2024, Godfrey had been elevated to Acting Head Coach for Cross Country and Distance. Under his leadership, both programs continued to thrive, with Declan McDonnell breaking major program records and Emily Simko earning CAA Rookie of the Year honors. His ability to lead training cycles, implement effective race strategies, and manage athlete development has been critical to Monmouth’s competitive consistency.
