Dalton joined the Monmouth program in the fall of 2019 after spending a stint as an assistant coach with Campbellville University in Kentucky. Prior to that, Dalton spent two seasons as the head baseball coach at Powell High School in Tennessee, going 50-16 in those two years with a pair of regional appearances. 

Dalton spent 2015-17 as an assistant coach at Roane State Community College in Tennessee, where he was the recruiting coordinator and hitting coach. In the summer of 2015, Dalton was the assistant coach of a collegiate summer league team in the Collegiate Valley League, the Front Royal Cardinals. 

As a player, Dalton played two seasons at Volunteer State Community College, hitting .367 with 5 home runs, 35 runs batted in, 12 stolen bases and 37 runs scored as a sophomore. Dalton hit .382 with 1 home run, 12 runs batted in, 4 stolen bases and 12 runs scored as a freshman. He continued his collegiate career at Tennessee Wesleyan, where he started 51 games in left field as a junior, batting .260 with 22 runs batted in, 8 doubles and 20 runs scored. As a senior, Dalton upped his average to .296 with three homers and 30 runs driven in.Â
