Danielle Dawson is in her second season as an assistant coach with the Monmouth women?s basketball team.
Her main coaching responsibilities include on-floor coaching of the guards, academics and film exchange.
A 1999 graduate of Hampton University, Dawson brings tremendous experience to the Monmouth fold. A three-year letterwinner at Hampton, Dawson was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in 1996-1997. As a rookie, the Richmond, Va., native averaged 17.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game and was also named team MVP and to the MEAC Tournament first-team.
In the 1997-1998 season, Dawson was honored with an All-MEAC first-team selection after posting 24.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per contest. The stellar individual season also culminated in a MEAC Conference all-tournament pick. As the team captain, Dawson led the squad to the MEAC Conference championship in both her junior and senior seasons.
Dawson posted career numbers of over 1,200 points in just three years while at Hampton University.
The daughter of Albert Dawson, Jr., Danielle graduated from Menchville High School in Newport News, Va., in 1995. The 24-year-old Dawson has three brothers, Albert, Duane and Mark.
