Jon Cascone is in his third season as head coach of the men's tennis team at Monmouth University.
Cascone has Monmouth on the winning track as displayed by their 4-2 record in the fall of 2000. The Hawks are expected to move back into the upper half of the Northeast Conference.
Cascone took over the reins of the men's tennis program on an interim basis this past in January of 1999. Taking over a program in the middle of the tennis year is no easy task, to say the least, but Cascone did a more than credible job, helping Monmouth to a 8-10 spring record and a seventh place finish in the Northeast Conference Tournament.
The Hawks played their best tennis toward the end of the season, capturing two matches in the NEC's and six of their last nine overall. Cascone gained the faith of both players and administration and in May his interim tag was cast aside.
Cascone has been part of the Monmouth community since 1997 when he took a job as assistant director of Intramurals. During his intramurals stint (he was made Director of Intramurals the spring of 1999), participation has increased by over 30 percent in sports ranging from basketball to volleyball.
Cascone earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from East Stroudsburg University in 1993. The Freehold, N.J., native, also earned his Masters of Education degree from the Pennsylvania school in 1997.
Cascone continues to be active in the classroom teaching several health and physical education courses.
He is married to the former Rosina Marrama.
