Greg Lamanna is in his fifth year assisting on Monmouth softball’s coaching staff. He successfully assists with the program’s recruiting efforts on and off campus. He helped Coach Sullivan and the Hawks land a group of freshmen that boasts both softball talent and academic achievement that rank among the best in recent recruiting classes. All ’08 frosh should make an immediate impact. Lamanna has worked with all aspects of position play for Monmouth in the past and aims to help solidify the Hawks defense in 2008 by working with the solid core of returners and promising newcomers. Reinforcing fundamentals and communication, he’ll be getting the newcomers and veterans ready to give the pitching staff more support than ever before. Lamanna also aims to improve the Hawks’ speed and short game by sharing the knowledge and strategies recently gained during his attendance at two National Fastpitch Coaches College courses. Lamanna came to West Long Branch with four years of prior collegiate coaching experience. He served as head coach at the County College of Morris during the 2002 season, where he also served as an assistant coach for the two prior seasons. During his time at CCM, he coached 10 players to All-Region status including an All-American shortstop in 2001. Prior to arriving at CCM, Lamanna served as an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison during the 1999 season. Lamanna’s last coaching job prior to MU was as an assistant varsity coach at Villa Walsh Academy during the 2003 season, instructing the fundamentals of fielding and hitting. A baseball player during high school, Lamanna has also served as an assistant coach for the Parsippany Trojans of the Morris Baseball League, winning the league championship in 2001 and has served at various softball and baseball camps in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Lamanna has served as a substitute teacher at various high schools in New Jersey. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison in 1996.
