Ron Krayl, a mainstay at Monmouth University, is now in his 34th season on the Hawks' basketball staff. Krayl, who has been on the Monmouth sidelines since 1977, is regarded as the architect of the vaunted Hawks' defense.

During his stay in West Long Branch, Krayl has helped coach the Hawks to four Northeast Conference tournament titles and four trips to the NCAA Tournament. He has also helped pilot the Hawks to their first two NEC regular-season titles.

Krayl joined the Hawks' coaching staff in 1977-78, under then head coach Ron Kornegay. Krayl helped Monmouth University make the transition to the Division I level during the 1983-84 season, and assisted Kornegay to a 129-130 overall record, including a 25-4 season in 1980-81.

Upon Kornegay's departure after a 1-6 start to the 1986-87 season, Krayl was tabbed as the interim head coach, leading Monmouth to a 7-13 record for the remainder of the season.

Krayl graduated from the University of Sioux Falls in 1968 with a bachelor's degree. At USD, Krayl was a two-time NAIA All-America selection. He tallied over 2,300 points for the Cougars during his career.

He was selected by the Dallas Chapparals in the third round of the 1968 American Basketball Association (ABA) draft. After serving in the United States Army, Krayl was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1971 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft.

During his time in the military, Krayl was a member of the Armed Forces All-Star squad which also included Duke University head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Temple University head coach Fran Dunphy.

Krayl completed his playing career with the Scranton Apollos and Trenton Capitols of the Eastern Basketball Association from 1971-74.

Krayl is a member of the University of Sioux Falls Athletics Hall of Fame and Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame. He was inducted into both halls in 1986. He is also a member of the Point Pleasant Beach High School Athletics Hall of Fame.

After his playing days ended, Krayl became a teacher and coach at Point Pleasant Boro. He coached the boys' basketball team for seven years and compiled a 114-54 record, guiding his 1974 squad to a 24-4 record, while his 1976 team captured the Shore Conference Class D title.

In 1980, he earned a master's degree in education from Trenton State.

Krayl, who is the all-time leading scorer at Point Pleasant Beach High School, teaches health and physical education at Point Pleasant Boro.

Krayl is married to the former Linda Cuthbert. They have one son, Jason, and one daughter, Allyson. Jason was a four-year letterwinner for the Hawks and a member of the Blue and White's 1,000-point club. Allyson was a member of The College of New Jersey track & field and cross country teams.
