Kevin Murphy, who was an assistant coach at Seton Hall for the past four seasons, joins the Monmouth University staff as an assistant coach. Murphy is now entering his eighth season in the college coaching ranks, as he also logged three years at Manhattan College prior to his stint with the Pirates.
During his four years at the BIG EAST institution, Murphy was responsible for all scouting, scouting reports, individual and player improvement and recruiting, which included the recruitment of Eugene Harvey, a unanimous BIG EAST All-Rookie Team selection in 2007. In addition, Seton Hall, which won 19 games last season, earned a berth in the 2010 NIT.
Murphy had a hand in all aspects of the Manhattan program since joining the Jaspers in the summer of 2003. He was in charge of all strength and conditioning programs, individual instruction, opponent scouting, film exchange, scheduling, team travel, budget and academics, among numerous other duties.
Murphy helped lead Manhattan to two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season championships, as well as the 2004 MAAC Tournament title and NCAA berth, and the third round of the 2006 NIT.
From 2001-03, Murphy worked at the University of Kentucky as the Special Assistant to the Men's Basketball Coach. He was responsible for film exchange, scouting, administrative duties and various other tasks for head coach Tubby Smith. During his time at Kentucky, the Wildcats went to the 2002 Sweet 16 and the 2003 Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
Murphy has experience working the Bobby Gonzalez and Tubby Smith basketball camps, handling many of the administrative duties. He has also volunteered at the 2002 World Championships of Basketball in Indianapolis, Ind.
Murphy is a 2000 graduate of Kentucky with a bachelor's degree in communications. He received his masters of education in sports management from Kentucky in 2003. While an undergraduate student at Kentucky, he was a four-year team manager.
Murphy and his wife, Kyla, have a two-year old daughter named Avery.
