Eric Platt is the newest member of the Monmouth University football coaching staff. Platt was added in July to tutor the Hawks? offensive linemen.
Platt, a former standout at Monmouth, returned to West Long Branch after a pair of one-year coaching stints. The Pittsgrove, N.J., native began his coaching career as the running backs coach and assistant special teams coach at Norwich (Vt.) University.
Platt?s last coaching post was at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., where he served as assistant offensive line coach.
The former Monmouth center earned four letters during his collegiate career on the shore and served as offensive co-captain during his senior campaign. During that senior season, Platt also earned accolades as a second-team All-Northeast Conference performer and a selection for Monmouth?s Vince Lombardi Second Effort Award. As a junior he allowed just one sack in 720 offensive plays.
In 2000, Platt received the prestigious Bill Boylan Award from the Monmouth athletics department, presented annually to that senior student-athlete who best demonstrates the traits of leadership, sportsmanship, scholarship and athletic ability. He was also chosen as a Robbins/ECAC Scholar Athlete.
Platt earned his bachelor?s degree in business administration and marketing from Monmouth in 2000.
At St. Augustine Prep, Platt was one of the best high school players in New Jersey, earning Parochial all-state honors and All-South Jersey recognition during his senior season. He helped guide St. Augustine to the Parochial ?B? state title in 1996.
