David Kunyz joined the Monmouth Football coaching staff in March 2019 as the Defensive Line Coach. The 2023 season will be Kunyz's fifth at Monmouth.
During his tenure, Kunyz has mentored three all-conference selections, including Erik Massey (2019, 2020-21), Kahari Scarlett (2020-21) and Lorenzo Hernandez (2021). In the Spring 2020-21 season, Monmouth led the FCS in sacks per game with 4.5.
Kunyz brought over 10 years of collegiate coaching experience with him to West Long Branch, including Defensive Coordinator positions at three different institutions. He spent the 2018 season as the Defensive Coordinator at Alderson Broaddus University, after spending two seasons as the DC/Linebackers Coach at Western Connecticut State prior to that. In his first go around at Alderson Broaddus he was the Special Teams Coordinator and coached the defensive line. He started his coaching career at Plymouth State helping the Panthers to a ECAC North Atlantic Championship in 2007 and a Division III NCAA Playoff appearance in 2008.
A native of Oceanport, NJ, Kunyz played two seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson University, as a defensive back, in 2004 and 2005. He then went on to earn a B.S. in Mathematics from Plymouth State University in 2009 and a M.S. in Educational Technology from DeVry University in 2011.
Kunyz currently resides in West Long Branch with his wife Cait.
