Kelly Monahan is in her third second season as an assistant coach on the Monmouth University field hockey squad.
Monahan's first coaching stint comes at her alma mater after a four-year playing career. The Belford, N.J., native capped off her playing career by becoming the first MU field hockey player to ever earn all-region honors as she was tabbed to the NFHCA All-America Mid-Atlantic second team. Monahan, who appeared in 62 games for the Hawks, including 53 starts, earned All-Northeast Conference honors on two occasions and seved as team captain during her senior season. She was tabbed a first-team defender in 2001 and was named second-team All-NEC as a junior in 2000. During her freshman campaign, Monahan earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors on one occasion.
In 2000, Monahan set the Hawks' single-season record with six assists and ended her career ranked second on the assists list with eight.
Monahan also enjoyed a solid prep career at nearby Middletown North High School. She earned All-Shore honors on three separate occassion. The three-sport standout also earned letters in basketball and track & field at Middletown North.
Currently residing in Leonardo, N.J., Monahan is very active in area youth field hockey exploits as she is involved in camps and clinics throughout the Jersey Shore.
Monahan, who received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Marketing from Monmouth in 2002, is regarded as one of the best women's high schoo basketball officials in the state of New Jersey.
