Nicole Barry returns to the sideline for her third full year as an assistant coach of the Monmouth University field hockey team. Barry responsibilities include practice planning and execution, travel preparation, and scouting. Barry, a Somerset, New Jersey native, will be also guide the defensive unit, as well as develop the Hawks’ goalkeepers.

“I am extremely excited to have Nicole join our program,” said Head Coach Carli Figlio when Barry joined the staff in August of 2013. “Playing at the highest level, her knowledge and game experience will be a huge benefit not only for our goalkeepers, but to our entire defensive corps.”

Barry’s goalkeeping group excelled during the 2014 championships season, the Hawks first title in 14 years and. The trio of keepers posted a combined 1.84 goals against average, 103 saves, .725 save percentage and three shutouts. Christen Piersanti led the way with a 12-6 record and 76 saves in over 1000 minutes of action and Amanda Westerweller turned away 13 shots in 181 minutes of play. Piersanti was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Weeks twice, while Tanja Kloock was honored once. Barry also mentored the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in Casey Hanna and all-conference defender Sydney Southard.

A 2012 graduate of BC, Barry played in 26 career games for the Eagles, compiling a 10-9 record. Barry’s senior campaign proved to be her best year in cage, registering career-high marks in minutes (1311:20), saves (75) and goals against average (2.03). In 2010, Barry was added to the New England Junior High Performance Championship Team.

At Eastern Regional High School, Barry posted 22 shutouts to set the school’s single-season record, while guiding her squad to the 2006 and 2007 New Jersey State Championships.
