WEST WINDSOR, NJ – After going 7-0 in conference play and earning the first seed in the tournament, the Monmouth University men's tennis team cruised past #4 Fairfield in the MAAC Semifinals today, 4-0. Przemyslaw Filipek and teammate Ale Gomez Estrada earned the win at #1 doubles to open the match, 7-5. Nicola Pipoli and Alberto Giuffrida clinched the doubles point for Monmouth, taking the 6-2 win at #2 doubles. During the singles portion, Gomez Estrada handled Fairfield at #3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Freshman Sergio Martinez took care of business at #6 singles, earning Monmouth's second win with a 6-1, 6-3 advantage. Giuffrida clinched the Hawks' win at #5 singles, as he edged Fairfield 6-3, 6-2. After winning its first ever MAAC Championship last season, Monmouth will look to make it two straight titles as it faces #2 Marist tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
