WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Wins in four of the six singles matches powered the Monmouth University women's tennis team to a 5-2 win over Lafayette College on Thursday afternoon.

The Hawks have won their season opening dual match for the third time in the last four years.

Monmouth took two of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the contest. 

Pavitra Parikh and Faith Sadgrove battled for a 6-4 win over Hanna Ganchi and Marie Sofia Romaniello at first doubles. Emilia Julin and Brielle Quaye were also victorious with a 6-4 victory over Ally Bauer and Isla Gibb at second doubles.

Elle Catanzarite and Jillian Gray were tripped up by Sophia Bald and Stella Dodd at third doubles.

The Hawks won second through fifth singles to secure the win in the match.

Sadgrove defeated Bald 6-2, 6-4 at second singles.

Julin battled for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 at third singles over Romaniello. 

At fourth singles, it was Catanzarite with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Dodd.

Quaye secured a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 win over Amelia Pericak at fifth singles. 

Lafayette secured wins over Parikh (first singles) and Gray (sixth singles) to finish off the match.

The Hawks are off until Wednesday, Oct. 7 when they host Wagner at 3:30 pm.
