EASTON, PA – The Monmouth University men's tennis team opened the 2026-27 season with a 7-0 win at Lafayette College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks won their season opener for the eighth straight year under head coach Chris Leicht.

"We had a great team road win to start the season," said Leicht. "It was great to see our guys competing again. We will keep working and get ready for Sunday!"

The Hawks swept the doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Ota Ungerman and Oleksandr Vysochenko opened the action with a 6-0 win over John Dickens and Derrin Lerner at second doubles. Axel Engström and Eñaut Garcia secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Aidan Mahaffey and Tomas Grygalis at third doubles.

The Hawks closed out the doubles action with a 7-6 (7-3) win by Santiago Ledesma and Luka Sauer Jimenez over Ricky Espaillat and Andreas Foong at first doubles.

Sauer Jimenez put the first point on the board for the Hawks at first singles as he secured a 6-3, 6-4 win over Dickens.

Garcia battled for a 4-6, 6-2, 12-10 win over Mahaffey at sixth singles.

Vysochenko clinched the victory for the Hawks with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Espaillat at first singles. 

The Hawks kept things rolling as Ledesma finished off a 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 win over Foong at second singles. 

Engström took care of business with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Lerner at fourth singles. 

Ungerman closed out the day with a 6-2, 4-6, 13-11 win over Grygalis at fifth singles. 

The Hawks are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 27 when they host Adelphi at 12 p.m.
