WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth built an early lead on Senior Day, but Stony Brook closed the game with an 11-goal run to hand the Hawks a 17-10 loss Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.
Prior to the game, Monmouth honored its 13-member senior class in a pregame ceremony. The Hawks responded with a strong first 35 minutes, holding a 6-5 lead at the half and extending it to 10-6 early in the third quarter.
Ty Caffarelli led the early charge, scoring twice to match his single-season program record of 34 goals.
Nick Teets added three goals for his third career hat trick and second of the season, while
Matt Porazzo continued his recent hot streak with a goal, giving him six over his last four games.
Caden Kesselring, who has now scored in four straight contests, adding to the advantage, while
Landon Parker controlled the faceoff X. Parker won 17 faceoffs on the afternoon to bring his season total to 105 and added his second goal of the season in the process.
Stony Brook, however, flipped the game in dramatic fashion down the stretch. The Seawolves scored the last five goals of the third quarter to take an 11-10 lead into the fourth and continued the surge with six more unanswered goals in the final frame.
