Hawks Fall at Home to Drexel

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.  – The Monmouth University men's basketball team fell at home to Drexel, 73-51, on Thursday night inside the OceanFirst Bank Center.

The Dragons scored 19 straight points in the first half and never allowed Monmouth (8-11, 2-3 CAA) to get back into the game, handing the Hawks their second straight loss.

Stefanos Spartalis scored the first four points for the Hawks, who trailed by a pair, 9-7, after four minutes. The Dragons turned the ball over seven times in the opening nine minutes, allowing Monmouth to take its first lead of the evening, 15-14, with 10:55 left in the opening period. Cornelius Robinson III scored the next five Hawks points, giving him 11 in the first half, but a 19-0 run by Drexel had the visitors up 38-19 going into halftime.

The Dragons kept the momentum to start the second period, opening a 54-25 lead at the under-12 media timeout. The Hawks held Drexel without a field goal for nearly over four minutes, trimming the deficit to 55-34, but Monmouth could not close the gap any further as the Dragons finished out the victory in West Long Branch.

  • Cornelius Robinson III matched his season best with 15 points, scoring 11 points in the first half. Robinson III has hit double figures nine times this season.
  • Dok Muordar scored 10 points, reaching double figures for the second time this season.
  • Jason Rivera-Torres corralled seven rebounds, his 13th game this season with at least seven boards.
  • Jack Collins started the 113th game of his career, moving him into a tie for third place on the program's all-time starts list.
  • Lucas Orchard hit the first three-pointer of his collegiate career.
