Christian and Kiss Inducted to the CSCAA Division III Hall of Fame

May 12, 2025

RICHMOND, Va. – Monmouth University swimming alumni Frank Christian and William Kiss were inducted into the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony took place on May 5 at the CSCAA Annual Awards Celebration in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Christian played a pivotal role in Monmouth's success during the late 1970s. He captured NCAA Division III titles in the 500-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle in 1977, setting national records in both events. He followed this with another national record and championship in the 500-yard freestyle in 1978. Christian's outstanding performances at the 1978 NCAA Division III Championships helped Monmouth secure a runner-up finish to Johns Hopkins, after which the program moved up to Division II.

Throughout his career, Christian earned 12 All-American honors. His 1978 NCAA runner-up time of 15:59.70 in the 1650-yard freestyle set a Monmouth team record that stood until 2022. He also claimed multiple titles at the Metropolitan Conference Championships.

William Kiss made an immediate impact as a Monmouth freshman in 1974, reaching the finals in three events at the last College Division Championships and leading the Hawks to an eighth-place team finish. At the inaugural NCAA Division III Championships in 1975, Kiss won the 200-yard freestyle, setting a national record that remained unbroken for eight years, while leading Monmouth to a third-place finish.

After skipping the 1976 Championships to prepare for the Olympic Trials, Kiss returned in 1977 to win two individual titles and guide Monmouth to a fourth-place finish. Over his career, he earned 16 All-American honors across individual and relay events and held Monmouth records in every freestyle event except the 1650-yard freestyle. Kiss was also a dominant force at the Metropolitan Conference Championships, earning multiple titles annually.
