Strong Showing for Hawks at Knecht Cup

April 13, 2025

Cherry Hill, NJ – The Monmouth University women's rowing team traveled to the Knecht Cup this weekend and took on dozens of opponents from across the country in a two-day event.

After a series of Saturday heats and semifinals, raced in less than ideal conditions, the Hawks advanced two boats to the Sunday finals. Monmouth had a strong showing in the Varsity 8+ as the Hawks finished 6th in the Petite Final after clocking a time of 7:10.12. This placed Monmouth 12th of 24 schools in the regatta, outperforming their seed (21 of 24) by nine places.

Earlier in the day, the Monmouth Freshman 4+ crew captured a bronze medal in the final, placing them 3rd overall out of 21 entries. The Hawks clocked in at 8:24.03, finishing :16.27 in front of the Lafayette boat that took fourth. Monmouth finished in front of Lafayette, MIT and Stockton and was a little over 10 seconds behind the Wisconsin for second.

Race Notes and Quotes
"As a program we were really excited to finally get our racing season started!  Two days of competition, against a lot of outstanding schools, in some dreadful conditions was great experience for us.  After this weekend we feel very good about where we are and we also know we still have speed to gain."

- Head Coach Scott Belford
