Monmouth Drops Season Opener to Colgate in Binghamton

West Long Branch, NJ - Monmouth women's lacrosse opened its 2025 schedule by falling to Patriot League member Colgate on the road at the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex.

Originally scheduled for Andy Kerr Stadium, the non-conference contest moved indoors to Binghamton due to field conditions in Hamilton. Seemingly unfazed by the change, Colgate jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed the Hawks in the 18-7 victory.

Senior Danielle McNeely, a Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention, broke the ice for the Hawks midway through the first quarter. On her way to a three-goal day, the veteran midfielder scored again with 00:34 remaining in the opening half. McNeely completed the hat trick by cutting Monmouth's deficit to 12-6 with 7:08 left in the third quarter.

After leading the Hawks with 41 goals in 2024, senior Caroline Brennan rattled the cage for the first time this season with 6:57 remaining in the second quarter. Kate Carolonza, Sara Curley and Sophia Lymberis round out Monmouth's list of goal scorers.

Colgate was able to quiet the Hawks' attack throughout the second half, limiting the visitors to five total shots. Meanwhile, the Raiders fired off 18 second-half shots in the offensive end with 17 going on goal.

Monmouth forced 13 Colgate turnovers and finished with only one fewer ground ball than the opponent.
