West Long Branch, NJ – Monmouth University Men's Basketball trailed for just 1:19 in a hard-fought victory Thursday night over Hampton University, 68-63. MU has won three in a row and were led by
Madison Durr, who scored 18 points to lead four in double figures.
Â
MU's lead was never more than nine or less than five for the first six minutes of the second half, but a 7-0 run has Monmouth up 12 with 12:02 to go. Monmouth maintained that lead until a Hampton 7-0 run made it five, with the Pirates getting within four late but no closer.
Â
Monmouth led early, and after Hampton took a 10-8 lead, Monmouth scored 10 in a row, including six straight from
Abdi Bashir Jr. to lead 18-10. Hampton answered with their own 10-0 push before the Hawks took the lead at 8:42 for the rest of the half. The Pirates trimmed it to one, only for Monmouth to score seven in a row with a Durr finger roll taking it to half with the Hawks up eight.
