Hempstead, NY – Andrew Ball's three-pointer with 22.4 seconds remaining capped a monumental comeback for Monmouth University Men's Basketball Thursday night at Hofstra University. The Hawks trailed by as many as 16, and took their first lead in the final minute on a night where
Madison Durr scored his 1,000
th career point.
An early second half 9-0 run had Monmouth within three, setting the stage for a tight second half. The Pride lead got back to as many as eight with 6:28 remaining, and four straight free throws from Durr, the final his 1,000
th career point, cut it back to three. Ball made four straight free throws, the final tying the game with 1:23 to go, and Monmouth got a stop on the other end with
Jack Collins calling an alert timeout after Durr secured the loose ball. Durr penetrated and found Ball across the floor, and his three with 22 seconds to go gave the Hawks their first lead of the night. MU got a stop and made its final four free throws to close the game on an 11-1 run and grab a road win. Monmouth didn't allow a field goal in the last 4:07 and only gave up two points in that stretch,
Durr's three-point play tied the game at seven, but Hofstra scored the next nine to go in front 16-7. The home team led by as many as 16 in the second half, including with under three minutes remaining, but Monmouth finished the period on a 7-0 run, capped by a second three-point play from Durr to have the Hawks within nine at the break.
