Monmouth’s Derek Robertson Named Recipient of 2025 Chuck Boone Leadership and Excellence Award

November 06, 2025

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University graduate quarterback Derek Robertson has been named the 2025 recipient of the Chuck Boone Leadership and Excellence Award, the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) announced Thursday.

Robertson becomes the first student-athlete in Monmouth program history to earn the conference's prestigious honor, which recognizes the football player who best exemplifies leadership, integrity, teamwork, and sportsmanship in both academics and athletics. The award is voted on annually by the league's athletics directors.

Robertson, a three-time team captain and the reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year, has continued to lead both on and off the field throughout the 2025 season. He has put together one of the most productive seasons in FCS football, completing 192-of-268 passes for 2,482 yards and 27 touchdowns in just seven games. Robertson threw for at least 350 yards and four touchdowns in each of Monmouth's first five contests, pacing the FCS in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and total offense while guiding the Hawks to an 8-1 record and a No. 6 national ranking.

Off the field, Robertson has been equally impressive. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance, maintaining a 3.31 GPA, and is currently pursuing his MBA at Monmouth. He has appeared on the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in 10 semesters and is a four-time Dean's List honoree.

A respected leader within the program, Robertson has been active in community outreach initiatives, including Read Across America, Be The Match donor registration, and Monmouth Football's annual field day at a local elementary school. His commitment to service, academics, and athletic excellence embodies the core values represented by the Chuck Boone Award.
