MONMOUTH GSR

Hawks Excel Academically With 91% NCAA Graduation Success Rate

November 19, 2025

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ. – The NCAA announced the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) Wednesday afternoon for student-athletes who entered Monmouth University in the 2018-2019 academic year.

GSR is an NCAA metric that measures how many student-athletes graduate within six years of initial entry into the university.

All colleges and universities are required by NCAA legislation and Federal law (the Student Right-to-Know act of 1990) to report student graduation rates, and those institutions offering athletics aid are required to report for their student-athletes as well. The NCAA acquires student-athlete graduation rate data from the Department of Education's Integrated Post-Secondary Data System Graduation Rate Survey (IPEDS-GRS).

Overall, Monmouth's GSR for the 2018-19 cohort was 89% while Monmouth Athletics achieved a single year score of 91% based on the 2018-19 academic year

"Monmouth Athletics is incredibly proud of the dedication our student-athletes continue to show in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Jen Sansevero. "Achieving a 91% Graduation Success Rate and having 12 of our programs earn perfect GSR scores reflects the commitment of our student-athletes, coaches, academic support staff, and the entire Monmouth community. Their pursuit of excellence extends far beyond competition, and this recognition is a testament to the culture we strive to uphold at Monmouth."

"The GSR scores for the 2018–19 cohort are a reflection of the commitment to academics that our student-athletes, coaches, and staff have," added Associate AD for Academic Support Tom Bieber. "Graduation has always been a top priority for our athletics department at Monmouth, and I am proud to have been a part of this achievement for so many."

Beginning in Spring 2020, a portion of Division I revenue is distributed to member schools based on the academic achievement of student-athletes. The model allows schools with higher graduation rates and academic success to qualify for more funds.

Monmouth has qualified for the academic unit each of the last six years.

Twelve of Monmouth's varsity programs earned a perfect 100 % GSR four-year graduation rate for the current report year: Bowling, Field Hockey, Men's Basketball, Men's Soccer, Men's Tennis, Men's Track, Softball, Women's Golf, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming, and Women's Tennis.
