West Long Branch, N.J. – Monmouth University Men's Lacrosse cut the deficit to one, but were unable to get the equalizer, falling to Fairfield University Saturday afternoon, 11-10. Three Hawks scored multiple goals in the game.
Monmouth got on the board quickly, with
Sean Ketchen netting one 47 seconds in, but Fairfield used a 6-0 run on five goals from Bryce Ford and Will Consoli to lead 6-1. Monmouth closed the half strong, cutting it to 6-4 at the break on two
Connor Gorman tallies with a
Jake Schneider finish in between.
MU's run continued into the second half, with
Matt Dollive cutting it to one before
Brendan Dundas tied it at 11:23. The Stags scored twice in 24 seconds to regain the lead at 8-6 headed to the fourth. Fairfield widened the lead to 11-7 with 8:23 to go, but MU immediately responded.
Nick Teets netted two in 31 seconds to make it 11-9, and
Luke Cole's tally at 2:20 made it 11-10. Monmouth had the final possession with a chance to tie but were unable to, falling by one.
