Hampton, Va. – Monmouth University Men's Basketball put three in double figures, but were defeated at Hampton University Thursday night at the Hampton Convocation Center, 64-56.
Jack Collins led all scorers with 19 points.
Hampton opened the second-half lead to 10 but at 11:16, Monmouth got it back to five at 43-38. A Hampton 12-point edge was again narrowed to five, with
Xander Rice hitting a three and
Cornelius Robinson Jr. getting to the rim at 5:06. Another Robinson bucket at 2:19 got MU within six, but the Hawks couldn't get it any closer, falling 64-56.
The Hawks led by six early after consecutive triples from Collins and Rice, but a Hampton run had the Pirates leading by 12. Collins made two threes in 1:33, and MU closed the half on a 14-3 run that included another three total triples from Collins and a last-second bucket from Rice to go to the locker room down one.
